Coast Guard searching for 3 overdue fishermen near Clearwater

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Coast Guard is searching for three overdue fishermen approximately 40 miles west of Clearwater, Fla., Friday.

Gilbert A. Gastineau, 69, from Orlando, Fla., Ken Harper, from Colorado, and Randy Waldorf, from Colorado, ages unknown, departed at about 9:30 a.m. Friday from the Seminole Boat Ramp in Clearwater on Gastineau’s 23-foot Century fishing boat ,Schools Out, to go fishing approximately 40-miles west of Clearwater.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg were notified at approximately 7:35 p.m. by Gastineau’s son-in-law when they didn’t return as expected.

A Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter rescue crew and a Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater HC-130 Hercules aircraft crew and the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Hawk, an 87-foot patrol boat homeported in St. Petersburg are searching for the men.
