Coast Guard searching for 2 overdue Florida boaters

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Coast Guard is searching for two overdue boaters approximately 8 miles west of John’s Pass, Fla., Friday.

Daniel Johnson, 31, and Bobby Redmond, 29, departed from the Seminole boat ramp in Clearwater Thursday on a 20-foot Wellcraft fishing boat.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg, Fla., were notified at approximately 6 a.m. Friday from Johnson’s wife, reporting that they had not returned by midnight as expected.

Searching for the men are crews from:

  • Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter
  • Coast Guard Station Sand Key, Fla., 47-foot motor life boat
  • The Coast Guard Cutter Alligator, an 87-foot patrol boat homeported in St. Petersburg
  • Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission
