Coast Guard searching for 2 overdue fishermen near Lonesome Bayou

NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard is searching for two overdue fishermen in the vicinity of Lonesome Bayou east of Pilot town, Sunday.

Missing are Thanh Ha, owner of the boat, and Anthony Nguyen, crewmember.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans were notified at 7 p.m., Friday, by a family member reporting that the fishing vessel had not returned as planned from their fishing trip that night.

The original departure location was Venice; the fishermen were aboard a 23-foot fiberglass workboat with a blue cabin.

Searching are:

  • Two Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crews;
  • A Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile,Ala., HC-144 Ocean Sentry fixed wing aircraft crew;
  • Coast Guard Station Venice response boatcrew;
  • Coast Guard Station Gulfport,Miss., response boatcrew;
  • Coast Guard Cutter Razorbill.


The family members of the overdue are also aiding the search on their two small boats.

“The Coast Guard is utilizing air and surface assets to continuously search through the night and into tomorrow,” said Petty Officer 1st Class Robert Stravinsky, an operations specialist at Sector New Orleans.
