Coast Guard searching for 2 overdue boaters in Breton Bay

BALTIMORE — The Coast Guard is searching Sunday for two boaters who were reported overdue when they failed to return from an outing in Brenton Bay.

Missing is Robert Spaulding, 53, who was last seen wearing jeans and a T-shirt, and a possible second individual known as “Junior.”

At approximately 1:30 a.m., Coast Guard Sector Baltimore watchstanders received a report from Spaulding’s wife, stating her husband failed to return from a boating trip and does not usually stay out after sunset. Spaulding was last known to be aboard a 21-foot center console boat, white with a magenta stripe.

St. Mary’s County Police located Spaulding’s truck and empty boat trailer at Abell’s Wharf in Leonardtown.

Sector Baltimore issued an urgent marine information broadcast and launched a 29-foot Response boat-Small II crew from Coast Guard Station St. Inigoes and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, New Jersey, to search Breton Bay.
