Coast Guard searching for 2 missing kayakers

MIAMI – Coast Guard crews are searching for two missing kayakers approximately 40 miles west of Marquesas Keys, Fla.

Search-and-rescue coordinators at the Seventh Coast Guard District command center in Miami received a call at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, from the National Park Service of Dry Tortugas National Park reporting two male kayakers had filed a float plan with the park and departed in a orange kayak off the coast of Dry Tortugas National Park. The float plan stated they were due back at 4:30 p.m., Saturday.

An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Miami was immediately launched to search for the overdue kayak and any possible people in distress.

The kayak is described as being an orange kayak, approximately 10-feet in length.

The identities of the two kayakers are currently unknown.
