Coast Guard searching for 2 missing boys

SATAWAL, Yap – Coast Guard aircraft rescue crews from Air Station Barbers Point are searching for two people aboard an overdue outrigger canoe from Satawal, Yap.

Coast Guard rescuers, along with crewmembers from three Good Samaritan vessels, are searching for two teenage boys who didn’t return to port in their 16-foot outrigger canoe early this morning. The sailors departed Satawal at approximately 11 a.m. Sunday to go fishing and were due back at sunset. The vessel is more than 40 hours overdue.

A Coast Guard C-130 search plane crew launched from Kwajalein at 1 a.m. today to assist with the search.

A Navy P-3 Orion aircrew and a Federated States of Micronesia patrol boatcrew plans to join the search later today.
