Coast Guard Searching for 2 Mariners

JUNEAU, Alaska — The Coast Guard is searching for two unreported mariners who were transiting from Juneau to Ketchikan and have not been heard from since Wednesday.

Mike Dunn and Vern McGee left Juneau Wednesday morning aboard Mr. Dunn’s 35-foot converted wooden trooler the Transition. Mr. Dunn’s wife contacted the Coast Guard Friday night after not hearing from the two men since their departure.

The Coast Guard launched a rescue helicopter from Air Station Sitka this morning to search the area the mariners were transiting. Another rescue helicopter will be launching this evening in the search effort. The Coast Guard Cutter Anacapa, homeported in Petersberg, is also helping in the search. Two civil aircrafts are also participating in the search.
