Coast Guard Searching for 19 Year Old Lakeland Man

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Coast Guard along with several local agencies are searching for Christian Dutch, 19, of Lakeland, Fla., in the area of Gasparilla Pass in Charlotte Harbor, Fla.

Coast Guard Station Ft. Myers Beach, Fla., received a call from Jim Disoleo, a good samaritan, reporting that while fishing with a friend, they witnessed yelling and flailing from a young male in the water. Disoleo threw a floatation device to the floundering male, the male was unable to reach the floatation device and began to sink beneath the surface. Disoleo’s friend then jumped into the water and was unable to rescue the male. Disoleo immediately called 911.

Coast Guard immdediately launched a 25-foot rescue boat, and a 33-foot rescue boat from Station Ft. Myers Beach, Fla., a 25-foot rescue boat from Station Cortez, Fla., and two HH-60 Jayhawk helicopters from Air Station Clearwater, Fla., along with Lee County Sheriff’s Office marine units, and Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office marine and air units to assist in the search for Dutch.

Weather conditions at the time of the incident were calm with a strong ebbing current emptying into the Gulf of Mexico. Dutch was reported to not be wearing a life-jacket.
