Coast Guard searching for 1 near Barnegat, N.J.

BARNEGAT, N.J. – The Coast Guard is searching Monday for a 61-year-old man who disappeared while transiting Barnegat Inlet aboard a 30-foot sailboat here.

The Coast Guard received a call at 6:10 p.m. reporting an unmanned sailboat in the mouth of Barnegat Inlet. The reporting source stated they saw the man taking down his sails before entering the inlet.

A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Barnegat, a rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, N.J., members of the New Jersey State Police and local authorities are searching for the man.

The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Ibis, home ported in Cape May, N.J., are en route to assist in the search.
