Coast Guard Searching Elizabeth River for Norfolk Man

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Coast Guard search crews are looking for a man after his 40-foot sailboat was discovered adrift near Waterside in Norfolk, Va. this morning.

Missing is James Scott Gibson, of Norfolk.

Rescue boats from Coast Guard Station Portsmouth and Portsmouth Fire and Rescue, and an Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., based helicopter are searching the Elizabeth River for Gibson.

Norfolk dispatch notified the Coast Guard at about 2:30 a.m. that Gibson’s sailboat, Wanderlust, had broken free of its moorings in Portsmouth and drifted into a pier in Waterside. The keys were in the ignition, the boat’s charts were out and its dinghy was missing.
