Coast Guard searching Destin area for plane crash

DESTIN, Fla. — The U.S. Coast Guard is searching south of Destin for the pilot and passengers of a plane that crashed in the Gulf of Mexico, Friday.

Coast Guard Station Destin received the report from the captain of the charter fishing vessel, Sea Blaster, that a T-6 Texan aircraft had crashed a half mile off the coast of Destin.

The Coast Guard is searching with the following assets:

  • The Coast Guard Cutter Cormorant and crew, homeported in Fort Pierce, Fla.
  • A 25-foot small boat and crew from Station Destin
  • An HC-144A Ocean Sentry aircraft and crew from Aviation Training Center Mobile, Ala.
  • An MH-65C helicopter and crew from Air Station New Orleans

Also searching are the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
