PHILADELPHIA — The Coast Guard, along with state and local partner agencies, is searching the Delaware River Friday for a missing boater.
The Coast Guard received a report from local dispatch of an unmanned personal watercraft going in circles on the Delaware River near Philadelphia at approximately 1 p.m.
A witness reported seeing a man ejected from the personal watercraft. According to the report, the man attempted to swim back to the boat but went under and was not witnessed resurfacing. The witness stated the man was not wearing a life jacket.
A search effort is being led by Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay in Philadelphia. New Jersey State Police personnel are assisting with the investigation. Numerous surface assets from federal, state and local government agencies are involved in the rescue effort, with helicopter crews also searching.
