Coast Guard searches for teen in Potomac River near Mount Vernon, Va.

Coast Guard Station Washington reserve members patrol the capitol-region waterwaysBALTIMORE — The Coast Guard is searching for a missing teenage male Wednesday who was swimming in the Potomac River near Mount Vernon, Virginia.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Baltimore received a call on VHF marine radio channel 16 at approximately 8:30 p.m. from a Fairfax County Fire department boat crewmember stating they lost sight of the teenager as they were responding to call of the swimmer having trouble.

A crew aboard a 29-foot Response Boat – Small from Coast Guard Station Washington launched at 8:35 p.m. to assist with the search.

A Fairfax County Police helicopter crew also launched to assist.
