SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Coast Guard rescue crews continue searching Wednesday for a missing swimmer in the fishing village (La Villa Pesquera) of Isabela, Puerto Rico.
Missing is Nelson Vargas Sierra, 28, who was last seen by a friend jumping off the rocks into the water, while swimming in the fishing village, and reportedly was not seen resurfacing.
Coast Guard Watchstanders in Sector San Juan received a call from a 911 emergency operator at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, who relayed the report from the swimmer’s friend.
Rescue crews aboard Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopters from Air Station Borinquen, Aguadilla, were launched Tuesday and searched on scene throughout the night to find Vargas. Coast Guard rescue crews aboard MH-65 Dolphin helicopters and a Coast Guard 45-foot response boat continue searching Wednesday morning alongside local emergency responders and Puerto Police Joint Forces of Rapid Action maritime units.
