Coast Guard searches for possible missing person after bicycle is left on ferry

SEATTLE- The Coast Guard searched for a possible missing person after a bicycle was found, unclaimed on board the Washington State Ferry WSF Wenatchee, Wedneday.

The bicycle was found at the conclusion of the 5:30 p.m. run from Seattle to Bainbridge Island, Wash. WSF personnel and Washington State Patrol WSP officers participated in the search.

The bicycle, a red “Giant” 10 speed, was located abandoned on the ferry’s car deck raising the possibility that its rider may have gone overboard into the water.

WSF and WSP personnel conducted a search of the Wenatchee and found no one associated with the bicycle or any personal effects left behind.

One 25-foot small response boat crew from Coast Guard Station Seattle, two 25-foot small response boat crews from Marine Safety and Security Team Seattle and an HH-65C Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Port Angeles, Wash., combed Elliot Bay, Wash., for four hours with negative results. The search was suspended at 10:40 p.m., Wednesday.

The Coast Guard searched approximately 15-square miles between Seattle, Bainbridge Island and the Puget Sound, Wash., area.
