Coast Guard Searches for Overdue Vessel

BALTIMORE – The Coast Guard is searching for the operator of an 11-foot green and silver skiff boat in the Gunpowder River who was due back at Hare Wood Park at 10:p.m. Saturday night.

The owner of the boat notified the Coast Guard at 1:00 a.m. Sunday that his friend, William James, borrowed the vessel to go fishing and has not returned.

The Coast Guard launched a 25-foot response boat crew from Coast Guard Station Curtis Bay, Md., an HH-65 helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, N.J., and a 25-foot response boat crew from Coast Guard Station Stillpond, Md. The Coast Guard along with Baltimore County Fire Department’s marine division, Maryland Natural Resource Police and Aberdeen Marine Fire Department has been actively searching in the Gunpowder River for over eight hours.

The search is continuing this morning.
