Coast Guard searches for overdue mariner near Wanchese, NC

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Coast Guard and partner agencies are searching for an overdue man in a 15-foot zodiac boat near Wanchese, N.C., Wednesday.

Missing is Jeffery Paul McCusker, 51.

A concerned friend contacted Coast Guard Station Oregon Inlet watchstanders at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday stating McCusker’s vehicle has been at the Mill Landing Road Boat Ramp in Wanchese since Thursday.

Dare County Sherriff’s office located McCusker’s vehicle and found McCusker’s wallet and driver’s license in the vehicle.

Coast Guard Sector North Carolina watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast and dispatched crews aboard an MH-60 Jayhawk from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City and a 24-foot Special Purpose Craft – Shallow Water from Station Oregon Inlet.

Two local good Samaritan vessels are assisting with the search.
