Coast Guard searches for overdue boater near Bethel Island

Pacific Southwest Coast Guard NewsSAN FRANCISCO — The Coast Guard is searching for a man on a personal watercraft who went missing near Bethel Island at 3:30 p.m. yesterday.

Missing is John McGuan, 29, from San Jose, Calif.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Station Rio Vista received a call for assistance from the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s department at 8:10 p.m. to help locate McGuan. McGuan was reported overdue by two individuals he had been with aboard personal watercrafts after they lost sight of him.

Crews from Coast Guard Station Rio Vista aboard a 25-foot Response Boat–Small, Coast Guard Air Station San Francisco MH-65 Dolphin helicopter, the Contra Costa County Sheriff Marine Unit and a California Highway Patrol helicopter have been involved in the search for McGuan.

An Urgent Marine Information Broadcast was also issued to mariners to maintain vigilance in the area.
