Coast Guard Searches for Missing Swimmer

Honolulu, HI – The Coast Guard and the Kauai Fire Department Thursday continue to search the waters and shoreline near Polihale Beach, Kauai for a swimmer missing since Wednesday afternoon.

Crews from two HH-65 Dolphin helicopters and a C-130 search plane, from Air Station Barbers Point, scour Kauai waters and beaches for a 30 year-old male who was visiting from Illinois. Kauai Fire Department (K.F.D.) dispatched air units along with land all- terrain vehicle units to aid in the search.

After trying to assist, an eye-witness reported a person in distress near Polihale Beach to K.F.D. around 4 p.m. Wednesday. After sending units to search, K.F.D. notified Coast Guard Sector Honolulu.

Two Coast Guard helicopters commenced five extensive search patterns along shorelines and open ocean to locate the missing person soon after notified. The searchers did not find any signs of the person through out the extensive search.

As of now, a C-130 search plane is still conducting extensive search patterns that started early this morning.
