Coast Guard searches for missing man

NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard is searching for a man who was reportedly swept off a jetty by a wave and into Caminada Pass today approximately six miles west of Grand Isle, La.

Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a call from Grand Isle Police Department at 6:56 a.m., reporting that six people were swept away by a wave in Caminada Pass. Five of the six people swam to shore.

Assets currently searching:

  • A Coast Guard 33-foot smallboat and crew from Grand Isle, La.
  • Two MH-65C Dolphin rescue helicopters and crew from Air Station New Orleans
  • Grand Isle Police Department
  • Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries
  • Grand Isle Fire Department

An Urgent Marine Information Broadcast (UMIB) was also issued to mariners as a caution in the area.
