Coast Guard searches for missing jet skier near Plum Island

BOSTON – The Coast Guard is searching for a missing jet skier off of Plum Island, near the Merrimack River tonight.

The missing jet skier is Noel Castilloveitia a 34-year old male from North Andover, Mass. Castilloveitia was last seen on a black and white jet ski near Plum Island.

Searching are: A 47-foot boat crew from Coast Guard Station Merrimack, a 25-foot boat crew from Station Gloucester, a Jayhawk helicopter from Air Station Cape Cod, Newburyport Harborpatrol, Salisbury Harbormaster, Ipswich Fire Patrol, Massachuestts Environmental Police and area police departments are assisting with shoreline searches.

Coast Guard Station Merrimack River received a VHF FM radio call around 8:20 p.m. reporting the jet skier missing. Castilloveitia had been travelling from Gloucester with two other jet skiers and a 24-foot recreational boat heading up the Merrimack River towards Haverhill, Mass.

The search is on-going.

“Mariners should ensure they have all necessary emergency equipment aboard their personal watercraft before heading to sea. Boaters are urged to take extra precautions when planning to be on the water at night,” said Petty Officer Third Class Michelle Ellena who is assisting in the search.
