Coast Guard Searches for Missing Hiker

HONOLULU – Rescue personnel from the U.S. Coast Guard, National Parks Service and the Maui County Fire Department continue to search for a 27-year-old male hiker that went missing 3:30, Saturday afternoon in the vicinity of Oheo Gulch, Maui.

At 9:15, Saturday evening, The National Park Service on Maui requested assistance from the Coast Guard Sector Honolulu Command Center to help aide in the search for 27 year-old, Maui resident, Edward Pedrick. A rescue helicopter crew was immediately launched and on scene at 10:40 p.m., conducting a 14 mile shoreline search. Coast Guard rescue personnel searched throughout the night.

This morning, a Coast Guard rescue helicopter crew from Air Station Barbers Point is conducting it’s fourth search, concentrating is focus around Kukui Bay.

The Coast Guard has searched for 12 continuous hours overlapping a 45 square mile search area.
