Coast Guard searches for missing fisherman southeast of New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard is searching for a missing crewmember off a fishing vessel in Brenton Sound, approximately 45 miles southeast of New Orleans.

At approximately 7 a.m., Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a call from a crewmember aboard the fishing vessel, Helgie Hovland, reporting two men fell overboard. One crewmember was rescued by the crew of the Helgie Hovland and the other is still missing.

The Coast Guard has been searching since 8 a.m. with an MH-65C rescue helicopter and crew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans and a 33-foot response boat and crew from Coast Guard Station Venice, La.
