SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — Coast Guard rescue crews are searching for a missing diver in waters near “La Parguera” in Lajas Puerto Rico.

The missing diver is a 30 year-old man, who reportedly goes by the name of Peter Pan and was wearing a dark wet suit and diving with one tank when last seen, approximately a mile south of Media Luna Cay near La Parguera.

Wathstanders at Coast Guard Sector San Juan were initially contacted at 1:15 p.m. Thursday by the operator of the dive boat who reported he had last seen the missing diver go into the water at approximately 10 a.m. He further relayed he left the dive area thirty minutes later to bring a passenger ashore who was not feeling well, and that when he returned he was unable to relocate the diver.

Watchstanders directed the launch of a MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Borinquen and diverted the Coast Guard Cutter Joseph Tezanos (WPC-1118) to scene to search. They also notified Puerto Rico Police Joint Forces of Rapid Action and the Puerto Rico Emergency Management Bureau, and transmitted an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast to advise mariners in the area of the situation.

Anyone with any information on this case should contact the Coast Guard Sector San Juan Command Center at 787-289-2041.
