Coast Guard Searches for Missing Chinese Sailor

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – A Coast Guard C-130 crew from Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., is searching for a man, reported missing from a merchant vessel, 80 miles off the Virginia Coast this morning.

The Coast Guard received a call from the Motor Vessel Ever Refine at approximately 1:30 a.m., reporting that the ship’s third mate, a 23-year-old Chinese native, had gone missing from the ship.

The ship’s crew initially noticed that the man was missing around midnight and conducted two thorough searches of the ship before contacting the Coast Guard

The crews onboard the C-130 and merchant vessel are conducting search patterns along the ship’s track line to find the missing mariner.
