Coast Guard searches for man in water near Nestucca Bay

SEATTLE – The Coast Guard is searching for a 26-year-old man near the entrance to Nestucca Bay, Ore., today.

Two men were boating in a Zodiac recreational craft near the entrance to Nestucca Bay when the craft overturned. One man was wearing a life jacket while the other was not. The first man attempted to put a life jacket on his friend but he had slipped out it.

The first man lost track of his friend in the surf and swam to shore where he was able to contact local authorities.

A Coast Guard HH-65C Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Facility Newport, Ore., launched to the scene as well as a 47-foot motor life boat crew from Coast Guard Station Depoe Bay, Ore.

The search continues for the missing man.

Water temperature on scene is 47 degrees.
