Coast Guard searches for man in vicinity of Horace Caldwell Pier in Port Aransas

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Coast Guard is searching for a man who went missing after an eyewitness reported seeing him jump from the Horace Caldwell Pier in Port Aransas last night.

Watchstanders at Station Port Aransas received a call at approximately 11:30 p.m. from personnel working at Horace Caldwell Pier reporting that an eyewitness saw a man jump off the pier and into the water. The witness said that it appeared that the man attempted to swim to shore after surfacing, but was pulled by the water current and lost in the dark.

A 41-foot response boat crew and a mobile unit from Coast Guard Station Port Aransas were dispatched to begin the search. An HH-65C rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi was launched to assist in the search.

All three Coast Guard assets were on scene this morning conducting a search in the vicinity of the area the man was last reported. The Coast Guard plans to continue searching the area today with aircraft and boats.
