Coast Guard searches for man after fall from cliff

SEATTLE – The Coast Guard searched for a man south of Depoe Bay, Ore., after he fell an estimated height of 30 to 50-feet from a cliff yesterday evening.

At 11:15 p.m. the Coast Guard suspended the search after rescuers from Air Facility Newport, Ore., Station Depoe Bay, and Air Station North Bend searched the area for more than four hours.

The incident was reported by the man’s wife, after he fell from the cliff into a cove below.

An HH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Facility Newport arrived on scene at 6:36 p.m.. A 47-foot motor lifeboat crew from Station Depoe Bay was sent to assist in the search. A second HH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station North Bend also assisted in the search, but found no sign of the man.

On scene conditions were reported as 12 to 15-foot breaking seas.
