NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Coast Guard in conjunction with the New Orleans Harbor Police began a search for a woman reported to have jumped from the Crescent City Connection bridge, Wednesday, at approximately 1:30 p.m.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a call from an off-duty Coast Guard officer at approximately 12:55 p.m., that a white female with dark hair, who was wearing blue jeans and a white shirt, had jumped off the bridge.
The woman was reported to be motionless on the water’s surface, then went under.
A Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65C rescue helicopter and crew and a Coast Guard Station New Orleans 25-foot response boat and crew arrived on scene at approximately 2 p.m., to conduct a search of the waters near the bridge.
“We are working closely with the New Orleans Harbor Police to locate her,” said Paul Barnard, an operations controller for Sector New Orleans.
