SAN DIEGO — The Coast Guard responded to a U.S. Navy helicopter that went down in Mexican waters approximately 13 miles southwest of San Diego at 11:50 p.m. Tuesday.
The Coast Guard was notified of the downed Navy helicopter and launched an MH-60J Jayhawk helicopter and response boat from Sector San Diego. The Coast Guard Cutters Haddock, homeported in San Diego, and Steadfast, homeported in Warrenton, Ore., were operating nearby and diverted to help with the search.
Coast Guard crews plan to continue searching throughout the morning.
