Coast Guard searches for 2 missing kayakers in Mobile Bay

Coast Guard 8th District NewsMOBILE, Ala. — The Coast Guard is searching for a 17-year-old male and 17-year-old female kayakers reported missing in Mobile Bay, Monday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Mobile received a report at approximately 5:30 p.m., from a friend of one of the two missing teenagers. The friend was concerned that the two teens went kayaking during high winds and seas in Mobile Bay between Dog River and the Theodore Ship Channel.

Currently searching are:

  • An MH-65C Dolphin helicopter and crew from Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile;
  • An HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft and crew from Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile;
  • Coast Guard Search and Rescue Detachment Destin, Fla.;
  • A 41-foot utility boat and crew from Coast Guard Station Dauphin Island;
  • Mobile County Sheriff’s Department;
  • Daphne Search and Rescue.

Both kayakers are reportedly not wearing a life jacket.

The Coast Guard issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast to Mariners in the area.
