Coast Guard Searches Boston Harbor for Missing Swimmer

BOSTON – The Coast Guard is searching Boston Harbor for a man who went missing about 6 p.m., after swimming with friends.

The group of four went swimming near Gallops Island from their sailboat and drifted away from it. One person made it back to the boat, one swam to the nearby rocks and another was recovered by Sea Tow. The fourth person has not been located.

At 6:20 p.m., a Good Samaritan saw one of the distressed swimmers and contacted Coast Guard Sector Boston who initiated a multi-agency search. A 41-foot-boat crew and 25-foot-boat crew launched from Station Point Allerton and a 25-foot-boat crew launched from Station Boston. A Falcon jet and Jayhawk helicopter crew launched from Air Station Cape Cod.

Also searching are crews from the Massachusetts State Police, Massachusetts Environmental Police and Boston Fire Department.
