Coast Guard searching for man reported overboard 14 miles off Matagorda coast

HOUSTON — The Coast Guard is currently searching for a 47-year old male who was reported to have fallen overboard a shrimping vessel on July 17, 2009, 14 miles off the Matagorda coast.

Watchstanders at Sector Houston-Galveston received a call July 17, 2009, at approximately 9 p.m. from a crewmember on board the 60-foot shrimping boat Wylie Milam reporting a fellow crewmember had fallen overboard. The following Coast Guard assets were immediately launched and/or dispatched to the vessel’s last reported position:

  • Air Station Houston MH-65C rescue helicopter crew
  • Air Station Corpus Christi HH-65C rescue helicopter crew
  • Coast Guard Cutter Skipjack, homeported in Galveston
  • 41-foot rescue boat crew from Station Freeport

An HU-25 Falcon jet crew from Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi is expected to join the search this afternoon.

The crewmember reported to have fallen overboard was described as a 47-year old Hispanic male with a small build weighing approximately 150 pounds. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a light blue shirt.
