Coast Guard saves four men from capsized boat

JUNEAU, Alaska – The Coast Guard launched a MH-60 Jayhawk rescue helicopter crew after being notified by Sitka Mountain Rescue of a 16-foot capsized boat with four men on board at 9:23 p.m. Monday in Silver Bay, Alaska, which is southeast of Sitka, Alaska.

The Air Station Sitka Jayhawk rescue helicopter crew launched at 9:58 p.m. and arrived on scene at 10:12 p.m.

The rescue helicopter crew safely rescued the men and transported them to Sitka with no reported injuries. The Jayhawk rescue helicopter crew arrived in Sitka at 10:17 p.m. where emergency medical services were waiting.

The Coast Guard Cutter Naushon, a 110-foot patrol cutter home ported in Ketchikan, Alaska, also responded.

The cause of the capsize is unknown.
