CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Five people aboard a disabled sailboat were saved by a Coast Guard rescue crew after their sailboat became disabled 11 miles south east of the Matagorda jetties, Friday.
A nearby sailboat crew contacted Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi watchstanders with a VHF radio at 7:11 a.m., stating that the 39-foot sailboat Petite Louis III was disabled and adrift in 6-foot seas near Port O’Connor.
The watchstanders launched a rescue crew aboard a Coast Guard Station Port O’Connor 41-foot Response Boat–Medium.
The rescue crew located the five boaters at 8:44 a.m., and towed their disabled sailboat back to Port O’ Connor.
The five person crew of the Petit Louis III was part of the 26th Annual Harvest Moon Regatta held from Oct. 25-27, the crews race from Galveston to Port Aransas.
“The Coast Guard reminds all boaters to ensure their marine band radios are in good working order before any voyage, file a detailed float plan, and to wear life jackets at all times,” said Cmdr. Dan Deptula, operations officer at Sector Corpus Christi.
