Coast Guard safely medevacs man in Unimak Pass

JUNEAU, Alaska – The Coast Guard safely medevaced a man aboard the 58-foot fishing vessel Saint Paul in Unimak Pass and transported him to Dutch Harbor, Alaska, Saturday around 3:25 a.m. after the master of the vessel reported he was possibly dehydrated and suffering from possible seizures.

The Coast Guard recieved a request for a medevac for Edwin Chaney, a 43-year old crew member, from the master of the vessel at 10:19 p.m. Friday. The Coast Guard immediately launched two MH-60 Jayhawk rescue helicopter crews from St. Paul, Alaska, about 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

The rescue helicopter crews arrived at the vessel in Unimak Pass at 2:15 a.m. and safely hoisted the man. He was transported to emergency medical services in Dutch Harbor where he arrived around 3:25 a.m.

The fishing vessel Saint Paul is homeported in St. Paul, Alaska.
