Coast Guard responds to woman falling from cliff

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The U.S. Coast Guard responded to a request for assistance from the North County Fire Department after a woman fell from her horse while riding along the cliffs near Fort Funston, just south of the San Francisco Zoo, this afternoon.

At 12:08 p.m. the fire department contacted Coast Guard Sector San Francisco and requested assistance from a helicopter unit to air lift the injured 40-year-old woman from the beach after she fell from a trail above.

An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station San Francisco was launched at 12:39 p.m. and arrived on scene at 12:45 p.m. The helicopter landed on the beach, where emergency crews were stabilizing the woman. The helicopter crew assisted the emergency workers with loading the woman into the aircraft. The helicopter then flew to the cliffs above, where the woman was transferred to paramedics.

The Walnut Creek resident was transported to San Francisco General Hospital where she was listed in stable condition.
