Coast Guard Responds to Vessel Taking on Water

MIAMI – Coast Guard Sector Miami responded to the motor vessel LADY K taking on water, which became unstable and dumped its cargo into the water at Baker’s Haulover Inlet early Friday morning.

At about 7:05 a.m., the Coast Guard received a notice that the motor vessel LADY K was taking on water with approximately 1,000 gallons of fuel, two vehicles on deck and sixteen 55 gallon barrels containing diesel fuel. As a result, Coast Guard Sector Miami responded to the incident.

Upon arrival, Coast Guard investigators found the vessel partially submerged and the 55 gallon barrels in the water as reported.

At this time, the vessel has been boomed-off and residual fuel and cargo dumped in the water is being recovered and cleaned by commercial salvage operators.

A safety marine information broadcast has been issued to keep all vessel traffic a safe distance from the incident as the Coast Guard monitors commercial salvage operations.
