Coast Guard responds to vessel taking on water near Cape Canaveral

7th Coast Guard District NewsCAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. – The Coast Guard responded to a pleasure craft with two men on board, taking on water 16 miles off of Cape Canaveral, Friday.

Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville command center received a call at 11:40 a.m., from the master of the pleasure craft, How Ya Doin’ stating that the pleasure craft Chicken Legs was taking on water and was in need of assistance.

At 11:55 a.m., Coast Guard Station Cape Canaveral launched a 45-foot Response Boat Medium crew to the scene.

The vessel How Ya Doin’ remained on scene with the vessel Chicken Legs until the Coast Guard crew arrived.

Once on scene at 12:30 p.m., the Coast Guard sent a crewmember over to the Chicken Legs with a P-6 pump to dewater and assess the situation.

The Coast Guard towed the vessel to Sunrise Marina in Port Canaveral.

No injuries were reported.
