Coast Guard responds to vessel taking on water

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard assisted Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries in response to a vessel taking on water near Bayou Bienvenue, Louisiana, Thursday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report at approximately 12 p.m. of a 16-foot vessel taking on water with three people aboard.

Sector New Orleans watchstanders directed the launch of a Special Purpose Craft-Shallow Water crew from Coast Guard Station New Orleans and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans.

Marine units from Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries also responded.

The helicopter crew arrived on scene at approximately 1 p.m. and located three people standing in a marshy area of Third Island Bayou near Lake Borgne, Louisiana.

Members from Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries rescued the three survivors.

They were transported to the Eddie Pinto boat launch in New Orleans in stable condition.
