Coast Guard responds to vessel taking on water

SEATTLE – The Coast Guard responded to a vessel taking on water off of Matia Island, in the San Juan Island chain today.

Group Air Station Port Angeles, Wash., received a call around 11 a.m. from a 28-foot vessel taking on water with two people on board.

An HH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Port Angeles was diverted from normal operations to respond to the scene, along with a rescue boat crew from Station Bellingham, Wash.

Once the rescue boat crew arrived on scene, they were able to safely transfer the two people off the vessel. The vessel was put into tow and returned to Bellingham.
