Coast Guard responds to vessel taking on water

SEATTLE – The Coast Guard responded to a vessel in distress about three miles off the coast of Westport, Wash., today.

The 50-foot wooden hulled vessel Restless C requested assistance after it began to take on water around 4:30 p.m.

An HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Astoria, a 47-foot motor lifeboat crew and a 52-foot motor lifeboat crew from Station Grays Harbor responded to the scene.

An Urgent Marine Information Broadcast was issued to see if any vessel in the area could assist. A Good Samaritan quickly arrived on scene and provided a water pump, which enabled the Restless C to keep up with the water.

The 47-foot motor life boat crew is escorting the Restless C while it returns to Westport Marina on its own power.
