JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Coast Guard assisted three fishermen after their 24-foot vessel caught fire in the St. Marys River, in St. Marys, Ga., Wednesday.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville received a report around 1:50 p.m. Wednesday from the crew of the commercial fishing vessel Hay Brut stating that their vessel was on fire and there were three people onboard.
Coast Guard crewmembers on patrol in the area responded to the scene and safely towed the vessel to a pier in Fernandina Beach, Fla., where the fishermen, who were suffering from non-life-threatening burn injuries, were met by awaiting EMS. The fire was extinguished prior to the Coast Guard vessel’s arrival.
The incident is being investigated by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
