Coast Guard responds to vessel fire near Rockport, Texas

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Coast Guard crews responded to a vessel fire near Rockport, Texas, Monday.

Coast Guard Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi watchstanders received a radio mayday call at 6:51 a.m. from a good Samaritan reporting a vessel on fire in Copano Bay.

A Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi MH-65 Dolphin helicopter air crew was launched. Once on scene, the crew observed the fishing vessel in tow and sinking. It was reported that were no persons aboard the fishing vessel at the time of the fire.

Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi watchstanders have issued a Safety Marine Information Broadcast notifying local mariners of the sunken vessel.

Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi Incident Management Division crews responded to assess environmental impact and vessel salvage.
