Coast Guard Responds to Unconscious Diver on San Carlos Beach

November 24, 2006 Monterey, CA – The U.S. Coast Guard responded to a report of an unconscious person on San Carlos Beach in Monterey this afternoon.

At approximately 4:30 p.m. beachgoers notified two Coast Guard members, who were conducting dockside-boarding’s in the area, that there was a man on the beach who needed help.

The two Coast Guard members ran to the beach to find a man in his early to mid-thirties, who had been diving with his son off of the beach, unconscious. They notified the Coast Guard Station Monterey duty responders who came to the beach to assist. The local EMS, police and fire department were notified and arrived on scene shortly after.

The Coast Guard members conducted CPR on the man for approximately 25 minutes, until the paramedics were able to transport.

The man, his son, and his wife were taken to the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula where the victim was later pronounced dead.

The exact cause has yet to be determined. The incident is under investigation.
