Coast Guard responds to train derailment over Sandusky Bay

Toledo – U.S. Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Toledo responded to reports of two Norfolk Southern train cars derailing while crossing Sandusky Bay today at approximately 4:45 a.m.

The two train cars were not tank cars, and there is no indication of any pollution or release of hazardous materials at this time.

MSU Toledo has notified all response agencies in the area as a precaution.

Coast Guard investigators, Erie County Emergency Management and Ohio EPA are on scene with Norfolk Southern representatives.

The incident is under investigation.
