Coast Guard responds to sunken vessel at Little Creek Marina

NORFOLK, Va. – Coast Guard and Norfolk Fire Rescue crews responded to a report of a sunken vessel at Little Creek Marina this morning.

The Habeus Porpoise, a 27-foot recreational vessel, sank in its slip for unknown reasons early Monday morning.

A portion of the vessel’s 220-gallon fuel tank spilled, creating a minor sheen in the marina. The vessel owner has contracted TowBoatUS to handle the clean-up of the fuel and the salvage of the vessel.

“The Coast Guard is monitoring the clean-up efforts,” said Lt. Tony Romero, Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads pollution investigator. “The fuel spill is not affecting other vessels in the marina. The safety of the public, the responders, and the environment is the Coast Guard’s top priority throughout the response.”

The marina is currently open to all vessel traffic.
