Coast Guard responds to sunken barge, crane in Mobile River

NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard is responding to a barge and crane that sank in the Mobile River, Thursday.

Personnel at the Coast Guard Sector Mobile, Ala., command center received a report at approximately 6 p.m., from the motor vessel Mary Sue that a barge and crane had turned over and sank in the river near Pinto Island, Ala., half a mile south of the Interstate 10 bridge.

Coast Guard investigators are working with the Army Corps of Engineers to find the exact position of the sunken barge and crane.

A Safety Marine Information Broadcast has been issued and there are no navigation restrictions at this time.

There are no reports of injuries or pollution.
