Coast Guard Responds to Sinking Workboat

BALTIMORE – The Coast Guard responded to a vessel taking on water near the Bay Bridge in Annapolis, Md. this evening.

Coast Guard launched a 41-foot utility boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Annapolis after receiving a mayday call on a marine band radio, channel 16.

A Anne Arundel County fireboat crew arrived on scene and removed two men from the 21-foot workboat and took them ashore. The Coast Guard crew dewatered the vessel and towed it to Station Annapolis were the owner will retrieve it. Towboat US towed the barge that was with the vessel to Sandy Point State Park were it is moored. Maryland Natural Resource Police also responded.

The Coast Guard urges mariners to have marine band radios onboard their vessels in case of an emergency.
