SEATTLE — Coast Guard Sector Portland, Ore., is investigating an unknown 10-foot by 200-foot sheen on the Columbia River near Vancouver, Wash., Friday.
The suspected source of the release is a vessel that is moored at the Port of Vancouver. Samples of the sheen have been taken by Sector Portland personnel.
The cause of the sheen is under investigation.
Sector Portland is responsible for marine safety, port security, marine environmental response, maritime law enforcement, and search and rescue in Oregon, southern Washington and western Idaho. They are one of the key coordinators of maritime safety during the Portland Rose Festival.
